DURYEA BUILDING INSPECTIONS
NEEDED IN FLOOD AREA
MANY RESIDENTS IN THE FLOOD AREA
OF DURYEA ARE BEGINNING TO
RESTORE THEIR HOMES. DURYEA
BOROUGH COUNCIL HAS WAIVED ALL
BUILDING PERMIT FEES. HOWEVER,
INSPECTIONS ARE STILL NECESSARY.
MIDDLE DEPARTMENT INSPECTION
AGENCY, THE BUILDING INSPECTION
AGENCY FOR DURYEA, HAS REDUCED
THE RATES FOR FLOOD VICTIMS IN
ADDITION TO THE BOROUGH WAIVING
THE PERMIT FEES. ALL REMODELING
WORK MUST BE INSPECTED AS PER
THE PENNSYLVANIA UNIFORM
CONSTRUCTION CODE.

The following is an update to
keep flood victims informed of
the latest information:
VOLUNTEERS
MANY VOLUNTEER GROUPS ARE COMING
ON SATURDAY. PLEASE LET US KNOW
IF YOU NEED VOLUNTEERS AND WHAT
YOU NEED DONE.
FOOD STAMPS FOR FLOOD VICTIMS
FOOD STAMPS are available for
flood victims at the Disaster
Recovery Center at LCCC in
Nanticoke and the Luzerne County
Assistance Office, 205 S.
Washington Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.
The stamps are given based on
the fact that you are a flood
victim rather than income based.
However, you must have the
following:
Proof of income, a photo ID,
number of members in the
household and proof of residency
(driver’s license, utility bill)
and FEMA number.
FOOD STAMPS WILL ONLY BE
GIVEN OUT UNTIL MONDAY,
SEPTEMBER 26TH
HOURS OF DISASTER RECOVERY

DEBRIS will continue to
be picked up on a daily basis
until next week. As of
yesterday, Duryea Borough has
collected 989 tons of debris at
a cost of $50,439.00. Because
the borough street department is
now collecting the garbage,
please try to bag or place
debris in containers if
possible.
DEBRIS FROM
OUTSIDE CONTRACTORS: Once
residents hire outside
contractors to work on their
homes, Duryea Borough will not
pick up debris from outside
contractors due to the extensive
cost of the clean up.
ELECTRICAL AND BUILDING
INSPECTIONS: Jeff Pisanchyn
is the building inspector for
Duryea Borough. All electrical
inspections must be scheduled
through him – 237-6686. Duryea
Borough has waived all permit
fees, but inspection fees must
still be paid. However, the
normal rate of $94.00 for
electrical inspections has been
reduced to $50.00 for all flood
victims. This money does not go
to Duryea Borough. This goes to
the Middle Department Inspection
Agency to cover the cost of the
inspection.
Residents who are beginning to
restore their homes must also
contact Jeff Pisanchyn for
building inspections as per the
Pennsylvania UCC code. All
restoration work must be
inspected.

RED CROSS MEALS: The Red
Cross will be distributing hot
meals every day through the
flood area. The meals will be
approximately noon and 5:00p.m.
DISTRIBUTION CENTER - REAR OF
DURYEA BOROUGH BUILDING
The rear of the Duryea Borough
Building is a main distribution
center for all supplies
including bottled water, food,
cleaning supplies, masks,
gloves, etc. Supplies are also
available at the V.F.W. However,
the V.F.W. distribution center
will close on Sunday.

MAIN STREET IS
SUPPOSED TO BE OPEN THIS
AFTERNOON. Residents on Main
Street are asked to place their
garbage on the sidewalk and not
on the street. Please place all
debris in containers if possible
because garbage will be
collected by borough packers.
SUPPLY
GIVE A WAY: The
Independent Bible Church has
clothing and hygiene supplies
such as toothpaste, shampoo,
soap, etc. The Church will be
opened from 9:00a.m.-5:00p.m.
daily until all supplies are
exhausted.
BOTTLES OF WATER are
available at the Duryea Borough
Building.
DEBRIS
REMOVAL: Duryea Borough
will be removing debris from the

week. Please be patient.

The following is an update
to keep flood victims informed
of the latest information:
CONGRESSMAN
BARLETTA’S REPRESENTATIVES
will be at the Duryea Borough
building September 13, 2011 from
10:00a.m. until 7:00 p.m. to
answer any questions regarding
FEMA assistance.
DEBRIS REMOVAL: Duryea
Borough will be removing debris
from the flood area on a daily
basis. Please be patient. There
are nine trucks out today
removing garbage. Main Street
will be done today so that it
can be open to traffic.

contractors due to the extensive
cost of the clean up.
